About Alice

Originally from Cardiff, alto saxophonist and composer Alice Leggett established herself in London and is now based in Amsterdam.

Alice is an active performer in Amsterdam, regularly appearing at venues such as the Bimhuis. She has performed there with Teis Semey's Super Deluxe Orchestra, featuring Marta Arpini, Sanem Kalfa, Fuensanta, Liva Dumpe on vocals, Federico Calcagno on bass clarinet, Jasper Høiby on bass, Jamie Peet on drums, Giovanni Iacovella on drums/electronics, as well as guests Louis Cole on drums and Gxnzo for spoken word. Additionally, she has performed at the Bimhuis with the Alice Leggett & Chaerin Im *Orchestra*.

Alice also collaborates with many musicians from the Netherlands, including Sun-Mi Hong, Tijs Klaassen, Chaerin Im, Teis Semey, and Alessandro Fongaro. She leads her own quartet featuring Chaerin Im on piano, Tijs Klaassen on bass, and Wouter Kühne on drums, and co-leads the Alice Leggett & Chaerin Im *Orchestra*, which features Alice on saxophone, Chaerin Im on piano and synths, Ask Morris Rasmussen on tenor saxophone, Matteo Mazzu on electric bass, and Pedro Nobre on drums. This ensemble recently won the Keep an Eye International Jazz Award and embarked on a tour in South Korea in September 2024.

During her seven years in London (2013-2020), Alice has collaborated with a diverse range of musicians. She has performed with The Calum Gourlay Big Band, Mark Lockheart's 'Days on Earth' (recorded and released on Edition Records 2019), and her own quartet, which included Rick Simpson, Calum Gourlay, and Will Glaser/Jon Scott. Alice has performed in UK venues such as Ronnie Scotts, The Vortex, The Southbank Centre, and the Con Cellar Bar, as well as at the London Jazz Festival and the Brecon Jazz Festival with her own band. She was also a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra.

In 2019, Alice was featured in JazzWise magazine as 'One to Watch' in 2020. 'Young saxophonist and Trinity-Laban graduate Alice Leggett is one to watch. But don’t just take my word for it, Mark Lockheart chose her to play alto in his Days On Earth band, and she’s also a member of Calum Gourlay’s Big Band – case closed.' - Helen Mayhew, Jazz FM.

During her studies in Amsterdam, Alice has studied with Ben Van Gelder, Jasper Blom, Simon Rigter, Marc Scholten, Tineke Postma and Reinier Baas. She also studied with Craig Weinrib, Ambrose Akinmisure and Immanuel Wilkins during her exchange programme in New York in 2023.

Alice will be releasing her debut album in May 2025 with her quartet; Chaerin Im on piano, Tijs Klaassen on bass, Wouter Kühne on drums as well as Alex Hitchcock on tenor saxophone and Alistair Payne on trumpet. This will be followed by a release tour in the UK and Amsterdam.
